The ground shifts slightly. I feel myself beginning to favor one side: my left. Pressing into my footing, I shift my weight to the right. Balance. I find balance.
Strengthening my core just slightly, I tighten my stomach muscles and contract my legs into a microscopic squat. The breeze rushes by face. Suddenly… my body disappears. I feel myself forget the energy I’ve put into my posture. I am reminded of the sun up above my, pushing its strong rays, making the skin stand up on my arms with a blessed warmth. I feel myself lifting and-
Submerged. I’m underwater. The instinct is there to swim quickly to the top of the water (how many
times have I seen the movie “Jaws”?). The instinct is there to bring myself back up. On the other hand, I still feel relaxed. I’m wearing my swim trunks. The water is clear. I look back up at my life above. I smile that underwater smile. Time to get back to my paddle board.
I really can’t live far from the water. There are so many beautiful outlets the water has to offer. The entertainment is endless, and if there’s anything I’ve learned in my life, its about finding activities which keep you happy and living a balanced lifestyle. Something you can share with friends and family.
Ok. Back up on the board. Jump. I wasn’t using the paddle before. I was just trying to get a feel for the ocean. How each wave made an impact on my stance and how, if I moved with the ocean, I could simply stand there and forget myself. Its easy to do when the water around you is so blue, the sun is warm, and there’s not a care on your mind. Well… It might be impossible not to have a care on your mind, but paddle boarding sure helps you tap into another wavelength.
This time, I’ve got my paddle. I think I’ll do a little tour. Delray Beach is really an amazing place to explore. When you get to know Delray, too, it is just as magical. I have a few spots I like to habituate. Though I can’t bring myself to list them here, I stand by the fact that Delray has a place for everyone. Its not hard to fall in love with Delray Beach. Out of all areas of Florida, I know this is my favorite.
Its amazing that a simple and enjoyable act such as this constitutes as fitness. Joy and pleasure are the categories I look for in how I spend my downtime. Once you stop thinking of fitness as fitness, the enjoyment in these various activities pops up. It is easy to find.
All you have to do is look outside.
